Rain, Snow Likely in J&K from April 18 to 20, MET Issues Advisory

 

Srinagar, Apr 17: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday issued a fresh weather forecast predicting rain, snow, and thunderstorm activity across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days.

 

According to the forecast, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy towards Wednesday evening with light rain or thunder at isolated places.

 

From April 18 to 20, the region is likely to witness generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and snow (over higher reaches) at most places. The MET department has also warned of moderate to heavy rain at isolated to scattered places during April 18 and 19, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds from the evening of April 18 till late afternoon on April 20.

 

On April 21, the weather will remain generally cloudy with a possibility of light rain or thunder at scattered places, while from April 22 to 28, the weather is expected to stay generally dry.

 

In view of the forecast, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued an advisory urging people and authorities to stay alert.

 

Farmers have been advised to suspend all farm operations during April 18 to 20, considering the expected rainfall and snow. The advisory also highlights the possibility of heavy rain at isolated to scattered places on April 19, along with moderate snowfall in higher reaches.

 

Additionally, people are warned about the chances of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones at vulnerable locations during the period. Residents are advised to stay indoors and seek safe shelter during thunder and lightning.

 

The MET Centre has urged all concerned to plan activities accordingly and strictly follow administrative and traffic advisories for safety.–(KNS)
