Snowfall forecast: We are fully prepared to tackle winter vagaries to keep roads open across Kulgam: AEE MED
Says 2 control rooms also set-up to monitor and manage operations effectively; Urges people not to park their vehicles on the roadside during the snowfall

Kulgam, Jan 4: In view of the Meteorological Department prediction for snowfall from today evening, the district administration Kulgam has geared up its snow preparedness keeping its men and machinery ready, officials said on Saturday.
Talking to Voice of India, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Mechanical Engineering department (MED) Kulgam, Khurshid Abdullah said that department is all geared up and has made all arrangements to ensure smooth clearance from all roads in the district.
“We have stationed 25 snow clearance machines to address any issue arising from the forecast weather conditions, out of which 5 emergency-based snow cutters are also in place to ensure smooth snow clearance in Kulgam district”, he said.
“As far as the upper reaches are concerned like Kund we have already kept one machine pre-positioned in the Kund belt for effective and smooth clearance, adding they have also set-up two control rooms one at Chawalgam, Kulgam, and the other at Bathipora, D.H.Pora to monitor and manage operations effectively in the district”, he said.
He also said that “585 kilometres of 162 roads in the district fall under our department with 430.57 kilometres (74 roads) fall under priority 1 and 154.66 kms (88 roads) fall under priority 2”,
“We urge people to cooperate with the us and not to park their vehicles on the roadside during the snowfall”, he added.
Notably: MET department forecast moderate to heavy snowfall beginning from Saturday evening till Monday morning, “The main activity would be between January 5 to 6. We are expecting good snowfall as the Western Disturbance (WD) is presently active over J&K.” They said.
