Kulgam, Nov 11 (VOI): Even as the government has claimed to provide tap water to every household in Jammu and Kashmir by March 2022,  residents of Zado Gujjar Basti of DK Marg belt in south kashmiri’s Kulgam district has been craving for potable water for the past one decade.

Residents told Voice of India that officials have failed to provide drinking water supply to this village for the past 12 years.

“We have been moving from pillar to post but authorities have failed to augment water supply. We are suffering in the absence of regular water supply for past one decade,”  a local said.

“Due to the  hardships of water scarcity in our area, we have to take long distance routes twice in a day  to get pitchers of water in order to meet the basic requirements of cooking and drinking”, said a women Shakela.

Locals urged the concerned authorities to look into the issue so that they could heave a sigh of relief.

Executive Engineer PHE Division Kulgam, Nawaz Ahmad when contacted told that “The area is at a higher elevation, which makes us difficult to provide water supply in the area, adding we are already working on it, and residents will get drinking water by the first week of December.” he said—(VOI)
