Anantnag, Nov 16 (KNO): Patients are suffering due to non-availability of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility at Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) patients said they are forced to visit private diagnostic centres in absence of MRI facility.
Mohammad Abbas, a patient from Anantnag said that doctors advised him to go for an MRI but in absence of the facility at the GMC, patients like him are forced to visit private diagnostic centres.
He said that it costs Rs 5000-6000 for a patient to undergo an MRI at a private diagnostic centre but there are dozens of patients who can’t afford it.
Patients said that poor patients are suffering mainly as they are unable to bear the expenses of the scan, hence their treatment gets delayed.
They requested the concerned authorities to set the facility as a hospital so that poor people won’t suffer.
A doctor posted at GMC Anantnag who wished not to be named said they urgently need an MRI facility at GMC in the face of its need to scan patients before treatment.
MRI is a diagnostic powerhouse that illuminates the inner workings of the human body with unparalleled precision. This extraordinary technology harnesses the potency of a magnetic field and radio waves to craft intricate visualizations of internal structures.
“The hospital administration has already earmarked a dedicated space for the installation of an MRI scanner in A-Block and are hopeful that the facility will be installed soon,” he added.
A top official of GMC Anantnag told KNO that the government hasn’t approved an MRI facility for GMC Anantnag yet. But efforts are on to make MRI available at the hospital soon, the official added—(KNO)
